What is the Divine Feminine?
Recently a friend asked me in her beautiful innocent way, “What is the divine feminine?” As we continued our conversation, we uncovered more to the question. She wanted to know what is the divine feminine, and how the divine feminine relates to her life and her desire to create profound change on earth. Especially having lived so much of her life in a patriarchal society, and growing up in a patriarchal religious system. My friend was raised Catholic.
This is such a beautiful and important question. Because it directly addresses the underlying desire for profound change we’ve all been feeling in these tremulous times. A desire to bring balance into our relationships with ourselves, our intimate partnerships, our work life, our families, friends, communities, and with the earth.
Our world right now often feels so chaotic. As transformational leaders and lightworkers we are moving through unseen mine fields continuing to bring peace and love into very challenging areas of our lives, the lives of our children, our communities, and the transformation of a very archaic worn out system of living on earth.
Defining the Undefinable
In all honesty, I believe it’s important for each of us to invite the divine feminine source into our lives, and receive the answers from there. And . . . I recognize it’s helpful to engage with a definition to see if it fits our experiences.
The following isn’t quite a definition yet it is steeped in my own personal experiences which is where I invite each of you to access the divine feminine source. Begin by asking to allow the divine feminine source to come into your life, and see how she shows up in amazingly powerful, loving, joyful, beautifully graceful, and at times authentically honest truthful ways!
In my experience, the divine feminine is the ineffable essence of grace and truth. The primordial heart of darkness from which all things are birthed, transition into death, and are reborn again. The divine feminine is both the eternal web of the grandmothers weaving life into existence and the space between the threads of life. The cyclical womb of creation.
The divine feminine lives within each of us, no matter our gender or transgender. Within our bodies as the left side of the body and the right side of the brain. When we engage the divine feminine aspects of ourselves, we treat our bodies as temples to be honored. We develop a relationship with our bodies as vessels of divine creation rather than shells to be discarded to ascend to the afterlife. In doing so, we develop a relationship with the earth as a sanctuary of heaven to be honored rather than a temporary place to do whatever we please.
When we begin to truly allow the divine feminine to open up within ourselves and our systems, we surrender to the possibilities of nurturing and caring for our lives with reverence. In doing so, we walk with reverence for our earth. Because, our earth is the divine feminine in grand form. Our earth is our mother. Our earth grants us life.
The way the divine feminine connects with the mind is through the heart. The intuitive capacities of creation. The “passive” surrendering principle of creative flow. The nurturing container of sacred silence.
And emotionally, the divine feminine is the enveloping arms of compassion. As well as the warrior of truth’s tough love. How can the divine feminine be both? The paradox of life’s mysteries is also the divine feminine. For to be the container of life, death, and rebirth, the divine feminine allows for suffering and joy simultaneously.
How Does the Divine Feminine Relate to Our Lives?
Women’s bodies go through cycles the same way the earth goes through cycles.
These cycles have been ignored, terrorized, suppressed, discounted, unrecognized, and have attempted to be destroyed by both men and women for a very very long time. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest tragedies of the last 2000+ years. This tragedy has caused such chaotic dysfunctional relationships between men and women, between women and women, with our teenage girls, our mothers, our communities, and especially with our earth.
In this suppression of the natural rhythms and cycles of the divine feminine, much has been lost. Not that the divine feminine has been lost. Because she is always present whether we acknowledge her power or not. Instead, we have lost our connection with this power within ourselves as humans living on a divine earth.
In this suppression, women have not felt safe to live on earth. Women have not felt capable of thriving. Women have not felt the power of the divine feminine rise within them because women have also allowed for this suppression to go on for a very very long time.
I hear some of the women shouting as they read this last phrase. I invite each of you who have experienced tremendous violence, trauma, oppression, and sexual abhorrence to stay with me a bit longer. For I too, know of these tragedies.
The divine feminine is calling for women to acknowledge the extreme challenges we’ve experienced for far too long by cultivating creative compassionate solutions. By taking the excruciating yet necessary next step to forgive in full acceptance. Forgive our fathers, mothers, grandfathers, grandmothers, sisters, brothers, and the world’s systems for dishonoring women’s rights, women’s bodies, women’s wisdom, women’s power, and women’s sacredness. After taking this step of forgiveness, we are invited to come to a place of self-love. True compassion for all of the traumas suffered in this life, past lives, and in ancestral lineages bent toward violence and suppression.
The divine feminine is asking us to take the step of honoring our bodies as temples of cyclical transformation, honoring our hearts as as intuitive vessels of knowing, and honoring our minds as spiritual sacred antennas connected with divine source. To honor ourselves as divine feminine goddesses.
We are to honor our menstrual cycles in our places of work, our families, our communities, and our intimate partnerships.
We are to honor our bodies as temples in our intimate partnerships. Only inviting in those who respect and honor us. First, we must respect and honor ourselves.
We are to honor our divine intuitive knowing in our places of of work, our families, our communities, and our intimate partnerships.
We are to honor our spiritual guidance in our places of work, our families, our communities, and our intimate partnerships.
Imagine the incredible beautiful changes we can create simply by honoring these aspects of ourselves. Truly taking the steps in each of these places in our lives to enhance the future of our children and communities.
How Do We Connect with the Divine Feminine to Usher in Profound Positive Fulfilling Change on Earth?
The way we can connect with the divine feminine source to create positive fulling change is very simple. We are to begin with ourselves. Then and only then can the seeds of our actions create fruit.
Begin by taking three deep breaths.
Connect with your intuitive heart. By simply having the intent to connect and/or by raising your hands toward the cosmos and feeling the connection with divine source. Then bringing your hands to your heart. (This simple connection of bringing the cosmos into your heart comes from Don Americo, a Peruvian Quechua shaman.)
Ask for guidance from the divine source. Simply state your question or intention inwardly.
Ask to be open to receive the guidance from divine source. This is a big one. We need to be open to receiving the guidance in the way the divine feminine and/or divine source wishes to give it to us.
Surrender to the divine timing of the actions.
Allow gratitude to fill you for receiving the guidance by saying thank you three times.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Then take the steps given to you by divine source into your work, your family, and your community
Perhaps you are wondering where the divine masculine is in all of this. To touch briefly on the divine masculine is to describe how action and light ignite the spark of the web of life. Light igniting creation. By bridging the left side of the divine feminine with the right side of the divine masculine within us, we create a sacred harmony, a sacred union of action and of being. Being and Doing.
Action made from the combination of illuminated intuitive connection and logical exacting calculations creates the sacred union of the divine feminine and divine masculine within us.
We as women and men are to work together in rising the divine feminine. To rise the divine feminine within our bodies, minds, hearts, souls, and lives. As well as bridging the divine feminine with the divine masculine to create the wholeness of sacred union within our lives, and truly usher in the next 2000+ years of peace and harmony on earth.
And . . .
We need to forgive our mothers.
We need to forgive our mothers.
We need to forgive our mothers.
So many of us, especially women, have been very challenged by the feelings and experiences of abandonment, neglect, dysfunction, and traumas of all sorts occurring in our lives from their mothers.
Even so, our mothers birthed us on earth. They carried us in their wombs to bring us into form. They did the best they could with what they were given. We are to forgive and accept all of the transgressions. It is time.
For when we forgive, truly forgive through absolute compassionate acceptance, then our relationships with ourselves, our beloved partners, our children, our parents/guardians, and the earth change toward thriving fulfilling health and wholeness. This is absolutely true. I’ve seen this many times with many clients. When they were capable of truly accepting how their mother’s actions affected them from the past and in the present, their lives changed toward amazing grace.
The health of the earth depends on the compassionate acceptance of our mothers.
It’s also important for women to take an honest look at our relationships with other women. To be aware when jealousy arises, be aware of how we compare ourselves to other women, and be aware of how we gossip about each other. We need to begin to shift this energy by looking within for the places where we undervalue ourselves which causes much of the jealousy and comparison energy. Then call upon our divine courage to transform this grief of harboring mediocre values into empowered ways of being.
For the men, notice how you treat the women in your life. Where you are honoring or dishonoring them. Respectful or disrespectful. Where you listen or disregard them. Where your expectations of how women are to be and show up with you rule your experiences of being intimate with them. Then ignite your courage, and make a change.
And . . . profound positive fulfilling change requires all of us to step into a new way of being with ourselves, each other, and the earth. Profound positive change requires us to step out of the quagmire of everyday difficulties and into the compassionate creation of thriving limitless possibilities.
Let’s come together to bring balance and harmony of the divine feminine to earth. To not only swing the pendulum, but to anchor the sacred union of the divine feminine with the divine masculine toward wholeness.
Let’s allow our bodies to be temples, our hearts to be filled with intuitive knowing, our minds to be connected with divine source so that our actions can arise from the union of being and doing.
Let’s allow our honor and reverence for the divine feminine within ourselves, our families, our intimate partnerships, our work, and our communities to illuminate honor and reverence with our mother earth toward health and wholeness.
In gratitude, so it is.
