With the chaos that has been occurring in these past few months, including the election and Standing Rock, now is the time to breathe, and come to center.
As fierce winds of hatred, disappointment, and uncertainty create chaotic uprisings in life, it’s important to acknowledge the tenacious steps we continue to take in uplifting ourselves, friends, family, and humanity. Actions made from the center of divine self are powerful; benefiting many.
Breath is the elixir of life – the center point amongst chaos.
Just this week, I moved through terrible riptides of emptiness, the kind of emptiness created from self-sabotaging beliefs. This ancient wounded energy has been created from negative thought patterns triggering grief and rage. Ultimately, the energy patterns wanted to protect me in a twisted way, yet truthfully these patterns created self-sabotaging behaviors. Keeping me from accessing my creative and beautiful self.
By breathing with conscious awareness of this energy, and with help from my beloved Alan, I released the self-sabotaging demon - my own inner Balrog - connected with grief, rage, and fear. Afterwards, I felt lighter, and was able to access my joy! It's strange to think that joy was the very thing the self-sabotaging energy was attempting to protect me from experiencing. Wow.

“I am a hole in the flute that the Christ’s breath moves through. Listen to this music.”
~ Hafiz (Sufi Mystic)
Throughout the ages, the breath has been a point of reference for meditation. Whether you are aligned with the Christ in its form of the Buddha, Jesus, Krishna, Mary Magdalene, Mother Mary, Durga, or Quan Yin — the breath is the center point that brings focus to the moment.
As a vehicle, the breath moves through the body creating space for grace to enter, even during times of anger and grief. By taking three deep breaths from the belly, you give yourself the gift of time and space during intense moments. In those three breaths, wars cease within the mind, within countries, and within the soul — cleansing and rejuvenating.

Spirit moves through the breath, creating space for non-violence and renewal.
The scent of spirit is present in the breath. Have you ever smelled a child’s breath as she breathes through her nose while she's sleeping? The scent is ethereal; her spirit moving through her brings joy. Or have you ever experienced the scent of a beloved’s breath when s/he is in love; smelling like divine cake? The scent is the essence of spirit.
“I am the concert from the mouth of every creature; singing with the myriad chords.”
One way to come to center is by breathing with awareness, whether in sitting or walking meditation. The center of divine self is always present; waiting in silence to be experienced by you. This is where Knowing resides — the intuitive spark.

In the meantime, whether your meditating or finding a few short moments to breathe with awareness, I invite you to practice the Mother’s breath which is based on the octave rhythm, and the essence of creation. By practicing the Mother's Breath, you become attuned to the rhythm of Knowing or the nous according to the gnostics. The nous is the in-between place — where spirit ignites the soul.
the Mother’s Breath
Take a breath in from the belly on a count of 7.
Hold the breath on the 8 count.
Exhale the breathe on a count of 7.
Practice for 3 rounds.
(This practice is from the sacred book: "The Secret Teachings of Mary Magdalene", pages 255 - 256. Written by Claire Nahmad & Margaret Bailey (2006))
In finding your own rhythm, spirit flows through you. Attuning to essence — a mystical way of being.
Remember that each of us creates our own reality in concert with one another. By giving the gift of breath to yourself during chaotic moments, you invite an opportunity to breathe life into the center of chaos. To begin again, renewed and ready to move through the greatest of challenges.
