“I don’t think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter. It’s quiet, but the roots down there are riotous.” ~ Rumi
At our house, we have a cockatoo bird in a cage named Blackjack. Being a sensitive bird, he’s raucous when he wants to be fed, generally becomes disgruntled if a human approaches his cage, and yet also sings when he's feeling a good vibe. Recently, we opened the door of his cage. His wings are full, not clipped, so he can fly. But he's an anxious bird learning to trust his feet and wings. And now that his door has become a bridge, he has ventured out to test the integrity of his feet on the bars.
Then one day, as my beloved and I were watching Blackjack on the bridge, we noticed him staring at the bars in front of his feet for a long while. There was a comment made to him: “It’s the same as it was the last time you went out.” Thinking that the bridge had not changed. But then another comment, “I think he’s going to attempt something new.” Sure enough, in a few moments, Blackjack hopped! He had accomplished a revelation. He had never hopped before this time, in all of his eighteen years of existence. Then he hopped again. A marvel! We congratulated him at his new found ability.
When a door becomes a bridge, dreams become reachable.
Stretching the above story into a metaphor for life, it’s possible to see that when Blackjack’s door became a bridge, his relationship with it changed. Similar to life, when we allow a door of resistance to open, new possibilities emerge in the moment. Then through practice in venturing out onto the bridge, testing our feet by continuing to take steps, we work with our fear of the moment to be able to fly into new heights. By gaining a new perspective, our deep-rooted desire to hop toward new potentials comes forth. For a bird to fly, he must first learn to hop.
Present Moment = Reality
My personal door of resistance has existed in my first chakra, my root, and has kept me out of the present moment. Flying amongst the clouds, and drifting in an out of my body was how I lived my life for several years — asleep to my inner divine source — my Root of Being. Torturous Past lives and maltreatment in this one had closed the door of my root so tight that the contraction brought excruciating pain during menstruation. I was supremely resistant in allowing the divine to flow through me.
And yet, my highest and wisest self knew that my root was the door to the bridge of my dreams. Over many years of deep work and self-care, I’ve healed the fear and rage connected with my relationship with my womb, my body as a temple, and sexual intimacy. Through the process, I’ve developed new levels of feeling safe in opening my root to the Earth. Feeling the nourishing essence of the Earthlight. Feeling the ecstasy of creation move through me. Allowing my Root of Being - my truest self - to guide me.
And now, when I soar to the highest heights, and dive into the deepest depths I remain embodied, a necessary skill in the services I provide in the world. And, I continue to be amazed that I'm living the life of my dreams – offering services connected with my soul, and in a loving relationship with my Beloved. To read more of my story, click here.
Fear is the sensation that shows us the way toward our greatest strengths.
Elaine Pagels, a wise scholar and author of The Gnostic Gospels, writes about the root: “Remaining unaware of their own selves, they have ‘no root’. The Gospel of Truth describes such existence as a nightmare. Those who live in it experience 'terror and confusion and instability and doubt and division’ being caught in ‘many illusions’” — known as the “nightmare parable.”
The message I glean from this information is that we can choose to awaken out of a terrorized disconnected state into a relationship with divine source. We can choose to search for and establish our root. To search for and connect with our divine guide within — as the Root of Being — the source of Knowing.
Once we initiate a connection with our inner Knowing, the Root of Being grows from our center down towards the earth, and out towards the cosmos. Creating the link of Heaven and Earth at the center of the heart. This is where the magic lives, within each of us. By creating consistent connections with our inner divine source, we are able to access our soul’s dreams, and create them into reality. Establishing a relationship with the Root of Being requires practice and patience. The process requires time to dissolve, purify, and transform past logged gunk that shrouds the connection with the truest self.
And yet, the rewards are worth the effort. Once you gain connection with the divine source within, and establish your inner root, you will have greater success at creating a fulfilling life that flourishes rather than diminishes during the winds of change.
As you sit in mediation, asking for guidance from your truest self about your intention for the year 2017, I invite you to acknowledge your door of greatest resistance. To acknowledge the fear, discover what it needs most, and gift it what it needs. So that you become the bridge for the unfolding of your spiritual journey; establishing your unique Root of Being. From there, your intention will become manifest for your highest good and the highest good of all beings.
If you feel called to travel through your door of resistance, into the garden of your dreams, let’s share tea together.
In Gratitude, so it is.
